Welcome

Welcome to our school website. I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher of this wonderful, compassionate school. As a parent, I understand that your children are precious gifts from God and I can assure you that your children will always be at the heart of all the decisions that I make.

Deanery Church of England Primary School is a very special place, with a strong Christian ethos where care and nurture are central to everything we do. Our purpose is underpinned by our school vision shaped by the words of Jesus in Luke 10:27, which call us “to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind — and to love your neighbour as yourself.” This teaching is lived out daily through the way we care for one another, celebrate individuality and build a community rooted in kindness, respect and compassion.

The Church of England’s vision for education is that all schools provide an education that enables children to experience ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10), and this sits at the very heart of our work. We are proud of our strong partnerships with the local community and the churches that make up the parish of Deanery. Staff go above and beyond to provide the very best offer for our pupils.

We have the privilege of helping to shape your child’s future so that it is as bright as it can be. As Headteacher, my philosophy is that all children flourish when they are happy at school and develop a genuine love of learning. I want every child to feel safe, secure and confident, developing self-belief and a strong sense of who they are and their place in the world. We aspire for every pupil not only to achieve academic success, but also — and arguably more importantly — to grow into physically and mentally healthy individuals. The wellbeing of our whole school community is incredibly important to us. My two main aims are for children to leave Deanery as kind, well‑rounded individuals and as confident, fluent readers. Reading is fundamental to learning, opening doors to the whole curriculum and to a rich world of words that inform, inspire and ignite imagination.

Our carefully crafted curriculum is rooted in our school values, shaped by pupils’ interests, and enriched by learning about our local community and heritage. Children are also encouraged to look beyond their immediate surroundings, exploring life in modern Britain and the wider world. We are committed to caring for and respecting God’s world, with sustainability forming a strong golden thread that runs throughout our curriculum.

We recognise that children make mistakes — if they didn’t, schools and parents would not be needed. Our most important role as parents and teachers is to form strong relationships with our learners, enabling them to take risks, try new things, make mistakes and thrive without fear of failure. When challenges arise, we work closely with children and families, using a restorative approach to help them understand what went wrong and how to move forward positively.

Our committed and skilled governors ensure that the school continues to provide excellence for all. I am supported by an incredible staff team whose dedication, care and individual strengths contribute to the happiness and success of our school. Our pupils are encouraged and supported to fulfil their potential and develop the skills they need to meet the challenges of an ever-changing society. We are also grateful for our supportive PTFA, whose work enriches school life and provides valuable opportunities for our children.

We warmly welcome visitors to our school and appointments can be made via the school office.
