Computing

As computer scientists, children will develop skills they need to flourish in a digital world. We aim to provide children with access to high quality resources and teaching that equips them with deep links with mathematics, science and design and technology to be able to work in a rapidly changing digital world and inspire them to pursue roles in the digital technology industry. Understanding how to keep safe online is an essential part of computing. This is also promoted through PSHE and focus Safer Internet workshops.

The curriculum overview outlines the learning that will take place in each year group throughout the year (see below)

Through the EYFS Framework, our curriculum intent is to provide a practical and playful approach to learning, encouraging pupil’s independence through exploration and challenge in preparation for Key Stage 1. The Characteristics of Effective Learning are at the heart of the EYFS curriculum with the intention of building upon children’s ability to learn and acknowledging that they learn in a variety of ways. All of the learning experiences that are planned allow pupils to develop these skills and to access the curriculum independently. Our bridging documents show how the EYFS curriculum transitions into Key Stage One so that the children’s first learning opportunities in school are built upon (see below).

Using the computer and the internet provides many benefits, yet used incorrectly or with lack of knowledge and awareness, can create a safeguarding risk.

Online safety is incredibly important. This is weaved through the Computing units we teach, but due to its importance, we also teach additional online safety lessons. The long term plan below shows what and where specific aspects of keeping safe online occur.
