At Deanery, our PSHE curriculum is designed to help pupils grow into confident, respectful and responsible individuals who are equipped to make informed choices and navigate the challenges of life. Through a safe, open and inclusive learning environment, pupils are encouraged to explore their identity, relationships, health and wellbeing, and their role in the wider world.
As thoughtful citizens, pupils learn the key building blocks of healthy, respectful relationships—focusing on family, friendships, and interactions in all contexts, including online. They are taught to recognise and manage risks, make safe decisions, and understand the importance of physical and mental health.
Our curriculum promotes open discussion, active listening, and empathy. Pupils are encouraged to express their views, consider others’ perspectives, and reflect on how their actions affect those around them. We aim to foster resilience, self-awareness and a strong sense of self-worth.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage, PSHE is embedded through play, routines and meaningful interactions. Children begin to understand emotions, relationships and personal safety in a nurturing environment that supports independence and exploration. The Characteristics of Effective Learning underpin our EYFS provision, helping children develop the skills they need to thrive socially and emotionally.
Our curriculum overview outlines the progression of PSHE themes and skills from EYFS to Year 6, ensuring pupils build on their understanding year by year.
PSHE at Deanery is more than personal development—it’s about growing with purpose, compassion and integrity.
It provides opportunities for spiritual reflection, helping pupils explore their values, beliefs and sense of identity, and encouraging them to consider how they can contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
