At Deanery CE Primary School, our House Captains play an important role in promoting teamwork, leadership and school spirit across our community. Every child belongs to one of our four houses:

• Fox – named after Fox Hollies Road, where our school is located.
• Hollies – also named after Fox Hollies Road, reflecting our school's local heritage.
• Burgess – named in honour of Father Henry Burgess, one of the founders of our school.
• Tudor – named after the Tudor Rose, the historic emblem of Sutton Coldfield.

Throughout the year, pupils proudly represent their house in a variety of ways, including sporting competitions, earning behaviour points and taking part in collaborative house activities. Our house system helps to foster a sense of belonging, healthy competition and teamwork, encouraging children to work together and celebrate one another's successes.

Each term, two House Captains are elected from Year 6 to represent each house. Pupils wishing to stand for election prepare and deliver a speech explaining why they would be a successful House Captain and how they will support their fellow house members. Children within the house then vote for their preferred candidates, making the process a valuable opportunity to learn about democracy, representation and pupil voice.

House Captains are expected to be positive role models who embody our Christian vision, inspired by Luke 10:27: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind, and love your neighbour as yourself." Through their leadership, House Captains encourage others, show kindness and respect, act with integrity and seek opportunities to serve their school community. They demonstrate that leadership is not simply about leading others, but about caring for and supporting those around them.

By championing their house, encouraging participation and acting for the greater good, our House Captains help ensure that Deanery remains a community where every child is valued, supported and inspired to flourish.
