Big Questions

Big questions in Religious Education (RE) are open-ended, philosophical, and ethical inquiries that encourage pupils to explore life’s ultimate meaning, belief systems, and identity.

Big Questions do not always have one “right” answer. Instead, they invite pupils to wonder, question, and reflect on what different people believe and why. These questions link to our school values each half-term and are progressive. Big Questions are carefully planned to be age‑appropriate and to build learning over time. As children move through school, the questions become more challenging and allow for deeper understanding.

Through these questions, children learn about a range of religions and world views while also reflecting on their own ideas, values and experiences. Through Big Questions, we aim to support children in becoming thoughtful, respectful and reflective learners who are curious about the world and confident in discussing big ideas.
